What is SLAG about?
SLAG is a community of gals who skate, make art and challenge the oppressive social norms that are present within the mainstream skate culture. SLAG is about getting gals out in bigger numbers to skate and have fun together in a safe and encouraging environment. Check out our mission, vision and values.

How do I get involved?
There's four easy ways to get involved:

  • Come support SLAG events.
  • Tell folks what SLAG is about.
  • Represent and wear SLAG gear.
  • SKATE an get your galpals to SKATE!

What type of gear I do I need?
If you are a beginner, any type of skateboard will do.
Any board will help with getting your initial balance.
If you can afford to buy your own gear, go to your local skate shop and get a complete, on the low end a complete could cost $100. You need a deck, grip tape, trucks, wheels, and barings.

If you can't afford it, ask around to see if anyone is willing to give you used parts for free or for a small cost.

How do I start my own skate crew?

Get your friends together and go roll around in an open parking lot, basketball court or other smooth cement surfaces. It's good when you are first learning to have a space with a few other people skating, so you can learn without interruptions or bad vibes from folks that aren't supportive. Make sure you have a good group of cheerleaders that will encourage you!
