Cherry Blossom Festival
Skate Like a Girl and the local skate scene will be making it down to celebrate the Cherry Blossom Festival hosted by Seattle’s Japanese Community!
The Festival wanted to expand programming to include skateboard, and invited us to be part of their event! Tons of free activities, demos (by local and Japanese skaters).
There is also an art contest / art show associated!
Deadline extended to April 10th.
You can drop your art off at Snowboard Connection in Bellevue and Seattle.

The Seattle Skateboard Community at the Cherry Blossom Festival.
A weekend of skateboarding fun for all ages and abilities!
Seattle, Washington (March 25, 2010) – The Seattle Skateboarding Community will be hosting an all-ages family friendly skateboarding activity weekend at Seattle’s Cherry Blossom Festival April 16 – 19th.
Skateboard Activities
This is the first time skateboarding will be showcased at the Cherry Blossom Festival. Skateboard activities are scheduled at the Seattle Center Skate Park, but will be held at Pavilion B if there is inclement weather. The Skateboard Community providing prizes and programming include: Manik Skateboards, Snowboard Connection, Nomadic Skateboards, GOODS, Skatebarn, Bellevue Skateparks, Skate Like a Girl, and Boarders For Christ.
Programming will consist of free open skates, clinics, demos, and small contests. Plus great giveaways courtesy of our event sponsors!
Friday
Snowboard Connection and Skate Like a Girl skateboarding demonstrations emceed by Forrest Wedmore, and free 15 minute Skate 101 workshops. Skate 101 introduces people new to skateboarding to skatepark etiquette, putting together a skateboard, and basics of board control.
Saturday
Scott Yamamura of Boarders for Christ (BFC) will be your host on Saturday. Japanese Skaters, Skatebarn, BFC, Nomadic and Skate Like a Girl will be showcasing skateboarding skills in the park (weather permitting). Festival goers will also get an opportunity to sign-up for FREE introductory skate lessons, and Skate 101 workshops. We will also have games, relays and other fun activities available for all ages and abilities.
Sunday
Bellevue Skatepark, Japanese Skaters, GOODS, and Manik will be wrapping up the weekend with demonstrations, clinics, and other fun activities. Marshall Reid of Manik will be the emcee for Sunday.

Manik Skateboards (www.manikskateboards.com) is a Seattle-based skateboard and apparel company started in 2001 as a creative outlet. Using a variety of channels such as photography, film, and art, Manik strives to have fun while also pushing the progression of skateboarding in a positive direction. Manik serves as a major supporter of the local skateboarding community, and will have some prizes available. Come watch Manik co-owner Marshall Reid emcee and the Manik Team in action on Sunday,
Snowboard Connection (www.snowboardconnection.com) is a full service snowboard, skateboard, and surf shop and has been serving the Seattle, area since 1990! Stop by Snowboard Connection in Seattle (263 Yale Ave North), Bellevue (10697 Main St) or online.
Nomadic Skateboards (www.nomadicskateboards.com) is a local skateboarding company supporting a strong Southend skate scene. Team skater Jason Singler will be on hand to demo, and instruct on Saturday. Nomadic will also have some giveaways.
GOODS (www.needgoods.com) is a boutique skate shop carrying skateboarding apparel, shoes, decks, with locations Seattle (1112 Pike St.), Bellevue (989 112th Ave. Suite 101) and online. Come see the GOODS team on Sunday and get some GOODS.
Skatebarn (www.skatebarn.com) is the largest NW indoor skateboarding, inline, BMX, and scooter facility. Come watch Skatebarn’s youth team the Ankle Biters, and the adult team showcase their skills on Saturday. Skatebarn instructors will be on hand to give some skateboarding pointers. Festival goers will also get the chance to win some free passes to Skatebarn.
Bellevue Skateparks (www.ci.bellevue.wa.us/skate_park.htm) provides a sense of community and ownership to all participants, regardless of age, experience or level of participation. The Bellevue Indoor park is the longest running indoor facility in the Northwest, they offer camps, instruction, special events and a girls only session every Sunday. Instructors and team riders will be there on Sunday.
Skate Like a Girl (www.skatelikeagirl.com) is a Seattle based non-profit supporting girl skateboarders and the greater skateboarding community by providing free and low cost programs in the Seattle area, Portland, OR, and San Francisco, CA. Skate Like a Girl will be providing tip and instruction all weekend.
Boarders For Christ (www.boardersforchrist.com) is a non-profit ministry that uses boardsports to create an opportunity to form a connection with God. BFC promotes a healthy use of the sports for all and invests in youth to find and use their interests and talents. Scott Yamamura local skate legend will be the emcee, and the BFC team riders will be on hand on Saturday to demo and skate with youth.
